Ireland Baby Names 2017

The Central Statistics Office  has released baby names data for 2017 for Ireland. Data is available for names with a count of three or more.

Female Names

Emily has been the most popular girls’ name since 2011 and tops the chart again in 2017. Emma moves up five places to second. Amelia climbs two places to joint third with Grace, who drops one place. Sophie remains in fifth. Lucy drops three places to sixth and Hannah moves up two places seventh. Mia stays in eighth and Ava falls six places to ninth. Chloe is a new entry in the top ten, climbing seven places to tenth. Lily drops out of the top ten.

New entries in the top 100 include Aoibhin (up 82 places to 68th), Hazel (up 21 places to 84th), Lena (up 16 places to 85th), Pippa (up 21 places to 89th), Hanna (up 14 places to 91st) and Esme (up 11 places to 99th).

Names dropping out of the top 100 include Mila (down 20 places to 104th), Alexandra (down 20 places to joint 111th), Isabel (down 16 places to joint 111th), Sara (down 18 places to 115th), Zoey (down 48 places to 145th) and Orla (down 57 places to 152nd).

Male Names

Jack is the most popular boys’ name in 2017, moving ahead of James who drops to second. Daniel remains in third and Conor drops one place to fourth. Sean remains in fifth and Noah stays in sixth. Luke moves up three places to seventh. Harry is a new entry in the top ten, climbing three places eighth. Adam drops two places to ninth and Michael falls one place to tenth. Oisin drops out of the top ten.

New entries in the top 100 include Theo (up 33 places to 73rd), Peter (up 14 places to 88th), Arthur (up 15 places to 91st), Ruairi (up 27 places to 96th), Jackson (up 29 places to 99th) and Archie (up 17 places to 100th).

Names falling out of the top 100 include Killian (down 19 places to 106th), Josh (down 32 places to 110th), Lorcan (down 15 places to 111th) and Jason (down 16 places to 114th).
