Northern Ireland Baby Names 2017

The Northern Ireland Statistics & Research Agency  has published baby names data for 2018 for Northern Ireland in United Kingdom. Data is available for all names.

Female Names

The three most popular girls’ names are unchanged, with Emily in first place, Grace in second and Olivia in third. Isla is a new entry in the top ten, climbing eight places to fourth. Anna falls one place to fifth, and Sophie drops one place to sixth. Ella moves up one place to seventh, replacing Amelia who drops to eighth. Charlotte is another new entry in the top ten, moving up four places to ninth. Sophia remains in tenth. Lily and Ava drop out of the top ten.

New entries in the top 100 names include Connie (up 32 places to 70th), Madison (up 60 places to 77th), Roise (up 61 places to 90th), Esme (up 31 places to joint 91st), Lara (up 17 places to joint 91st), Orlaith (up 21 places to joint 91st), Rachel (up 21 places to joint 91st), Eden (up 19 places to joint 99th) and Lauren (up 21 places to joint 99th).

Names falling out of the top 100 include Beth (down 21 places to 103rd), Lola (down 39 places to joint 110th), Lottie (down 35 places to joint 110th), Kate (down 30 places to 122nd), Bethany (down 38 places to 130th), Kayla (down 46 places to 143rd) and Brooke (down 72 places to 154th).

Male Names

For the third year in a row James is the most popular boys’ name. Jack stays in second place. Noah moves up two places to third, ahead of Charlie who stays in fourth. Jacob climbs two places to fifth and Harry stays in sixth. Thomas is a new entry in the top ten, moving up seven places to seventh. Daniel stays in eighth, and Oliver falls six places to ninth. Logan is another new entry in the top ten, climbing sixteen places to tenth. Matthew and Alfie drop out of the top ten.

New entries in the top 100 include Eli (up 56 places to 64th), Tiernan (up 54 places to 80th), Eoghan (up 25 places to 83rd), Joe (up 78 places to 88th), Harley (up 53 places to joint 90th), Toby (up 28 places to joint 90th), Arlo (up 57 places to 94th), Senan (up 36 places to 95th), Cole (up 36 places to 98th) and Hunter (up 109 places to 98th).

Names dropping out of the top 100 include Cormac (down 17 places to 103rd), Kai (down 31 places to 114th), Niall (down 24 places to 117th), Jay (down 22 places to joint 120th), Leon (down 27 places to 120th), Harvey (down 53 places to 129th) and Corey (down 39 places to 132nd).
