Scotland Baby Names 2016

The National Records of Scotland  has released baby names data for 2016 for Scotland in United Kingdom. Data is available for all names.

Female Names

Olivia moves up two places to be the most popular girls’ name in 2016. Emily drops one place to second and Sophie falls one place to third. Isla remains in fourth. Ava climbs up one place to fifth and Amelia moves up one place to sixth, ahead of Jessica who drops two places to seventh. Ella stays in eighth and Lucy remains in ninth. Charlotte is a new entry in the top ten, climbing eleven places to tenth. Lily drops out of the top ten.

New entries in the top 100 names include Alexandra (up 52 places to 82nd), Quinn (up 36 places to 84th), Florence (up 58 places to joint 89th), Lillie (up 71 places to joint 89th), Madison (up 26 places to 93rd), Violet (up 26 places to 94th) and Hanna (up 28 places to 97th).

Names dropping out of the top 100 include Rachel (down 28 places to 108th), Mollie (down 35 places to 121st), Darcy (down 41 places to 127th), Caitlin (down 43 places to 135th) and Beth (down 60 places to 153rd).

Male Names

Jack is the most popular boys’ name in 2016. James moves up one place to second, changing places with Oliver who drops to third. Lewis stays in fourth. Noah is a new entry in the top ten, climbing ten places to fifth. Logan moves up two places to sixth. Harry is another new entry in the top ten, moving up nine places to seventh. Alexander falls three places to eighth. Leo is the third new entry in the top ten, climbing four places to ninth. Charlie drops four places to tenth. Lucas, Harris and Daniel fall out of the top ten.

New entries in the top 100 names include Carter (up 54 places to 69th), Arthur (up 64 places to 87th), Alex (up 21 places to 89th), Arlo (up 103 places to 91st) and Conor (up 45 places to 98th).

Names dropping out of the top 100 include Sonny (down 17 places to 108th), Jay (down 33 places to 117th), Kian (down 38 places to 119th), Harvey (down 25 places to 123rd) and Evan (down 39 places to 130th).
