Scotland Baby Names 2017

The National Records of Scotland  has released baby names data for 2017 for Scotland in United Kingdom. Data is available for all names.

Female Names

For the second year in a row Olivia is the most popular girls’ name, ahead of Emily who remains in second place. Isla moves up one place to third, changing places with Sophie who drops to fourth. Amelia climbs one place to fifth and Jessica moves up one place to sixth. Ava falls two places to seventh and Ella stays in eighth. Charlotte moves up one place to ninth. Aria is a new entry in the top ten, climbing two places to tenth. Lucy drops out of the top ten to eleventh.

New entries in the top 100 names include Harley (up 44 places to 68th), Hallie (up 37 places to 71st), Luna (up 57 places to 78th), Sadie (up 32 places to 85th), Callie (up 47 places to joint 88th), Penelope (up 43 places to joint 88th), Rachel (up 20 places to joint 88th), Nina (up 33 places to 94th) and Aurora (up 46 places to 96th).

Names falling out of the top 100 include Hope (down 17 places to 101st), Alexandra (down 21 places to joint 102nd), Arianna (down 21 places to joint 102nd), Eve (down 21 places to joint 108th), Quinn (down 24 places to joint 108th), Kayla (down 34 places to 115th), Madison (down 27 places to 120th) and Hanna (down 32 places to 129th).

Male Names

Jack has been the most popular boys’ name since 2008 and tops the chart again in 2017. Oliver moves up one place to second, ahead of James who drops one place to third. Lewis remains in fourth place. Logan moves up one place to fifth, changing places with Noah who drops to sixth. Harris is a new entry in the top ten, climbing six places to seventh. Alexander stays in eighth and Leo remains in ninth. Harry falls three places to tenth. Charlie drops out of the top ten.

New entries in the top 100 names include Jax (up 31 places to joint 85th), Sonny (up 23 places to joint 85th), Innes (up 19 places to 89th), Mohammed (up 19 places to 94th), Ruairidh (up 36 places to joint 97th) and Struan (up 24 places to joint 99th).

Names dropping out of the top 100 include Calum (down 17 places to joint 102nd), Luca (down 40 places to joint 102nd), Euan (down 27 places to 112th), Callan (down 21 places to 121st) and Christopher (down 46 places to 128th). Christopher falls out of the 100 most popular boys’ names for the first time.
