Tasmania Baby Names 2018

The Tasmania Department of Justice  has released baby names data for 2018 for Tasmania in Australia. Unlike in previous years data is only available for the ten most popular female and male names.

Female Names

For the sixth year in a row Charlotte is the most popular girls’ name. Matilda climbs seven places to second. Ava remains in third place and Olivia moves up three places to fourth. Grace is a new entry in the top ten, climbing eleven places to fifth. Evie drops four places to sixth, and Ruby stays in seventh. Willow is another new entry in the top ten, moving up fourteen places to eighth. Amelia climbs two places to ninth and Isla falls seven places to tenth. Mia, Sophie and Evelyn drop out of the top ten.

Male Names

Oliver has been the most popular boys’ name every year except one since 2010, and tops the chart again in 2018. Henry climbs one place to second, and William remains in third place. Noah moves up one place to fourth, and Mason climbs five places to fifth. Jack drops four places to sixth. Hudson is a new entry in the top ten, climbing 24 places to seventh. Hunter falls two places to eighth. James and Leo are also new entries in the top ten. James moves up 15 places to ninth and Leo climbs 27 places to tenth. Charlie, Thomas, Oscar and Max drop out of the top ten.
